Rate a Minute | Recirculating Aquaculture Systems
Monterey Bay Aquarium
Aquaculture is going high-tech! 🚀 Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) are a game-changer for sustainable seafood. These land-based systems filter and reuse water, meaning less pollution, less waste, and healthier fish. Nearly all species farmed in RAS receive green and yellow ratings from Seafood Watch, making them fin-credible seafood options. 🛒 Shopping tips: Many species are farmed this way, but you’re likely to find salmon, tilapia, trout, and kingfish in US retail and restaurant locations—some packages may call out the term ‘land-based’ to indicate RAS. Our faves to look for include salmon from Sustainable Blue and Atlantic Sapphire. Both produce Atlantic salmon raised in recirculating aquaculture systems, which is rated green by Seafood Watch. #SeafoodWatch #RateAMinute #Sustai
