Baby spotted ratfish caught on camera at China Creek
Ocean Networks Canada
A rare look at a baby spotted ratfish (also known as a chimaera) captured on camera at the China Creek Coastal Community Observatory. The China Creek observatory is located in Alberni Inlet on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Deployed in 2019 at a depth of approximately 110 metres, and is a partnership between the Hupačasath (who-petch-ah-set) First Nation, the C̓išaaʔatḥ (Tseshaht, pronounced say-shot) First Nation, and ONC. As coastal communities in Canada face a wide range of rapid environmental changes, real-time data from cabled observatories can be used by community members to make informed decisions about their coastal and marine resources. 👀 Species featured in this video: - Longnose skate (Caliraja rhina): https://data.oceannetworks.ca/app/fixed-cam
