Deep Sea Geology of the Central Pacific | Nautilus Live
EVNautilus
While exploring the abyssal plains of the Central Pacific, we saw firsthand some amazing deep-sea geological formations. Observing and studying deep-sea geology helps us understand our planet's history. For example, sedimentary layers record changes in what fell through the water column over time. This area is highly volcanic, leaving basalt rusted by iron and giving us clues about past eruptions. Watch as our ROV pilots impressively navigate the vehicles around cliffs and sharp edges as we stream this deep-sea science to the world. Enjoy this highlight video of NA182 geology with explanations from some of our onboard experts. Ocean Exploration Trust's NA182 Exploration of the Hawaiian Islands is funded by NOAA Ocean Exploration via the NOAA Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute. Explora
