Glowing Squid Attacks our ROV in the Seychelles
OceanX
In 2024, OceanX completed the deepest ROV dive ever conducted in the Seychelles. On the way back to the surface, the team encountered something unexpected: a Dana Octopus Squid, one of the largest bioluminescent predators in the deep sea, moving directly toward the vehicle with its photophores lit. This is a rare look at one of the ocean's most elusive animals: how it uses bioluminescence, why it behaves the way it does, and what a sighting like this tells scientists about life in the deep waters of the Indian Ocean. This expedition was conducted in partnership with G42 TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 - Deepest ROV Dive Ever Conducted in the Seychelles 0:31 - The Geology of the Deep: What the Seafloor Revealed 0:51 - A Dana Octopus Squid Approaches the ROV 1:40 - How the Dana Octopus Squid Uses Biolumine
